Photo Venture Camera Club

Come enjoy the art of photography

Next PVCC Meeting

Date: Thursday, Feb. 2
Location: Indianapolis Art Center
Topic: Portrait shooting night

With the plan to do a member-based blurb book in the summer (and possibly a new member directory), club member Paul D'Andrea has offered to make headshots of Photo Venture club members. While making portraits for any interested club members, Paul will talk about what he's learned and the techniques he uses to quickly make lit portraits of individuals for medium and large sized groups.

Thursday is also print competition turn-in for "In Your Own Backyard." In the discussion on the club's Facebook page, the definition of "in your own backyard" has evolved to mean within a "stone's throw from your home".

Photograph the restored nineteenth-century Methodist church with its striking Romanesque-Revival architecture. The church, known as the Central Avenue United Methodist Church or “Centrum,” was abandoned in 2008 as it fell into a state of disrepair. With the support of Indiana Landmarks Preservation Society and the generous donation of $10 million from Bill and Gayle Cook it was restored into a state-of-the-art events facility. The Grand Hall theatre (former sanctuary) features stenciled walls, a domed ceiling, 1,000-pound chandelier and high tech lighting effects. The 1892 organ has been restored with gilded and stenciled pipes. Beautiful stained glass is prevalent throughout the building. Go to www.sceindy.com/Centrum.html for more information on the renovation.
